Waterstones can use normal mail but the have to asure that it's certified mail (maybe a little more expensive, I know), I mean the mail service has to provide Waterstones a tracking number to avoid this to happen!

If it's less then 30 days since you paid for said 505 and you paid via a bank card or credit card, you can go to the bank or credit card company and tell them what happened so they can refund your money.
