Maddz, my experience (with 3 different Kobos) was that once my Macbook and Kobo became unhappy the relationship never recovered. I tried everything so far mentioned, save for the SmartEject plug-in. I tried without an external sd card. I went through numerous PRAM resets (occasionally that brought stability to the relationship for a short while). Nothing rid me of the improper eject issue and a corrupted database.
I note you are considering the Inkbook Prime - it may or may not be important for you that that reader does not have Google Play installed and, I have read, it cannot be sideloaded successfully.
