I didn't think of this because I did connect my device to a USB2.0 port, but I build the PC myself and remember that the frontside bus has a cable for 3.0 and for 2.0, where all four ports are connected (in case your motherboard wouldn't have usb3). Perhaps usb2.0 is also malfunctioning because it is hooked up through usb3.0.
I'll have to search around for a hub but I find this really interesting to see if this would actually work. Thanks for your help!
