it looks like the brackets are designed to be "pull handles". IE Big enough to grab (the lower bits) so that you can drag it wider, to highlight more than you started with. This would make sense for note taking, or highlighting (as opposed to looking up the word). And maybe that's why the highlight stays put with only one touch (to remove the dictionary). If you wanted to move the brackets, for an actual highlight, you could do it after the dictionary goes away.
But I've been crocheting for a month, and not reading -- so I haven't looked at my Voyage to see if it has this new update. So I'm just guessing.
