What I would like to see is Kobo or Amazon make the same Reader in two models. One with page turn buttons and one without. Then we'd see which sells better. The one with the buttons would be more expensive though because of the added buttons.
I've not used the card slot of my H2O, but that doesn't mean others won't. The card slot does not get in the way at all. Buttons could maybe get in the way unless there was some way to turn them off. The buttons on the T1 did not get in the way, but then they were close to the bottom on the left side.
To be honest, I don't think we'll satisfy everyone. The buttons are going to be an issue. Use normal buttons and yes, they can be accidentally pressed. Use buttons (like the Voyage) and the cost is going up even more and that's not good when the user doesn't want buttons.
What I want more then a card slot or buttons is a heftier battery for more life between charges.
