My Zodiac also has a "non-user-replaceable" battery, but after the company failed, online tutorials for replacing it appeared fairly quickly, as well as cheap aftermarket batteries with larger capacities than the original. It's a finicky job but perfectly doable with a bit of caution. Wouldn't surprise me if battery replacement proved to be equally possible with the Kindle 2. Availability of batteries might be another matter...
