The question is how many people would consider it a useful feature. Even within these fora, the number of people who are storing enough ebooks on their devices to justify using an external uSD card seems to be a relatively small number. A few years back when internal storage was 1.2GB (2GB less the space used by the system partitions), the external card was easier to justify. With 8GB of internal storage and 6.7GB available for books, justifying the cost and utility of the external card slot and card is getting more difficult.
Hmmm... looking at my KA1, currently it contains 3417 ebooks with 2GB left free. Assuming an average reading time of 2 hours per book (mostly fiction and I am a fairly fast reader), it would take me about 6834 hours to read. Going for the stranded on a desert island scenario and assuming that I would have 8 hours per day to read after taking care of food, water and other survival related items, it would take me about 854 days to read every book once.
