Either option is perfectly fine; if you've gotten along without Calibre's management features for years, you can keep doing so for as long as you want.

Before you give up on it though, I would recommend you come up with a list of things you can do the old way that are no longer possible if you don't ever access the library folder. Chances are, with a little customization you can do the same thing in Calibre in a nearly identical (and sometimes superior) way.

If you want, after you create the list, post it here on the forums and ask the rest of us if there are ways to do the same things in Calibre.
