I use the Resize Cover plugin so no cover is wider than 400, which is more than big enough for the Cover Browser / or details form
FWIW
I do read on a 6" e-ink device or remote browse using Calibre Companion, on my 7" tablet, so I see no need for all thos wasted pixels
