I haven't actually seen an Oasis and I do agree that the price is a bit ridiculous. But so is the price of my Voyage and I'm glad I got it.
From the reviews I've seen and read I really think I'd like the Oasis. I have no doubt I'd have gotten one if it wasn't for my concern about the battery. I've paid ridiculous prices for nearly all my ereaders.
I've been an avid reader for about 65 years now. Maybe a bit longer. As long as I can remember when I decided I wanted to read a book I never let the price get in my way. My tastes are broad enough that I read a lot of inexpensive books but when I particularly want a book I get it, price notwithstanding. I see no reason not to apply the same principle to my ereader. I do have a Voyage.
When I was a kid in school we had a Texas history book that was a big thick black and white comic book. It was a great way to learn history. Full of detail and a pleasure to read. When I was an adult we were talking about history books and I mentioned that book, which was the first time I'd thought about it in years. I immediately went looking for one. At that point they'd been out of print for years and old copies were selling from about $300 and up.
I was in college then and unable to afford it but I started saving. Fortunately, a few months later, when I had about half the price saved up, some group started reprinting it and I got a copy for about $20. If they hadn't done that I was going to pay the $300 for it and I would have been perfectly happy to do so. I wouldn't pay a ridiculous price for a car or a suit but books are different.
