Correct. I got one when they first came out, a bit of a waitlist, but almost a year now. It still seems to act just like when I first got it. In fact, the other day I managed to run it down to low battery warning for only like the 4th time total.
First time I did it kind on purpose, shortly after I got it. Someone asked then how long the battery on the Oasis will go without putting it into the cover and I was around 7 hours. 6-7 I think. The other day I forgot to put it in the cover in between my reading sessions and from morning on to late afternoon, I had about the same reading time. 6-7 hours. I know this because I know how long it takes me to read a book and I read 1.5 books in that time. Both around 360 pages. Light on 10 and wifi on and off. Font size on 4.
So if there is any degrading of the battery at this point, its so small its not noticeable to me yet.
As to justifying the Oasis? Its a personal thing. I also have the Voyage and I don't consider its "buttons" to be real buttons. It was a bit hard for me to hold, although the screen is nice. So is my Oasis screen, but the ergonomics for me are the best since the very first kindle. The wedge shape makes it so comfortable I can read for hours without pain.
For me it was worth that. I will be passing down my Voyage at some point maybe to my husband who is still plowing along with my first PW. That one has a horrible screen, but he says its fine for him. But then he doesn't really read a lot.
