Once you handle the catch-22 situation of that procedure.
The device has to be jail broken to install the rescue pack.
But if you install it on a jail broken device, and later lose all or part of the jail break, then yes, you can boot to diags, ssh (or telnet) into the device and fix it. That was the RP's original purpose.

I want to let Amazon get fully committed to this 5.8.8(+) firmware version, that is:
All in-stock Kindles have 5.8.8 or newer installed before sale.
Then we will jailbreak it.
And maybe even have some new Kindle models by that time to play with.
Unless I die of old age before that happens.
