Air travel restrictions

It has been announced that on flights to the US or the UK from a number of specified airports electronic devices bigger than mobile phones will be banned in hand luggage and must be checked in. This is going to be maddening for a lot of businessmen who seem to work non-stop on laptops and tablets. But for an oldie like me it would be disastrous. I have become accustomed to travelling with a kindle with a few hundred books on it. I long ago got rid of my dead-tree books. I don't know how I would survive.

I don't at the moment travel from most of the named airports, but I wonder if it will soon be like the ban on liquids and become general.

It looks as though the measurements are designed to exclude kindles. Are there slightly smaller e-readers that would still be OK?
