Exactly. My iPad is my content-consumption device. My laptop is my content-creation device. I'm a keen photographer and my Adobe Lightroom library of 50,000+ photographs represents years of work, which I'd be somewhat annoyed to lose. Hence it has three independent backups in three separate physical locations.

Likewise my Calibre and iTunes libraries.
