Paying 100% of a device price for two years' insurance seems like a terrible deal to me. I'd put the money toward a better tablet, or as in this case, go with the cheap option and take my chances.
I agree with you about cheap Android over Fire OS, though. And while I did put the Google Play Store on my two Fire tablets, I ended up taking it off. Their performance nosedived and it wasn't worth it.
