Jon, when someone explicitly doesn't want to spend a lot of money, recommending a premium or a super-premium reader probably isn't that helpful.
I personally think Brian nailed it in the second post: easy access to an existing Nook library, waterproof, and mid-range price said the GlowLight to me, also. But the OP wanted a Kindle. It's over.
Just as a general observation, and I've said this before, I wish more posters could think outside their own preferences and prejudices to consider what best meets a poster's stated requirements. Also generally speaking, unless a poster brings it up, most of the more esoteric considerations don't apply. There's no reason to overthink a recommendation. These days, any reader is most likely to be good enough.
