Could someone point me to a link or lay out some intructions? Is it also in the hidden folders?

Thanks again.
Don't get hung up on having the latest firmware (the one you have is pretty current) -- it's not likely to help your lack of Overdrive. The firmware updates are rolled out in a staggered fashion, so you might or might not get it right away.

One thought I would have looking back at the thread is that it doesn't look like you've tried a factory reset yet. It completely wipes the device and starts over with stock firmware. It might just fix something for you. Do a sync 1st if you have any Kobo books you've started reading on it, or make note of where you are in any sideloaded books because they'll be wiped.
You can find the factory reset in Settings, Device Information.

And to confirm: make sure you use the proper program to edit affiliate if needed (as Bookworm_Girl suggested TextEdit that's what I would try -- I don't have Mac experience so I can't comment further on that). The reason this is important is that a proper editor outputs in a proper format, while improper ones look right but don't have the proper coding in the output behind the scenes.
