You failed to specify a specific release.

You can run Debian/Jessie on the newer Kindles, not as a replacement for the Amazon OS, but as an extension as described in the links you where given above.

You can also run Debian/Jessie binaries (which are hard float) concurrently with the Amazon OS (which is soft float), see my worked examples in "ARMhf on Kindle" thread.
