It also works preventative. The thing is in sight and we check every bank note, whether it's €5 or €200. When someone who willingly wants to spend false notes sees that they'll think twice. Also, a lot of our customers are café's, which usually don't check notes when it's busy so often false money is spend there. It only happens a couple of times a year, luckily.
The cheapest I found the new for is €92, so it isn't that bad. Our current machine is 5 or 6 years old. However, my father loathes to replace things that have become obsolete, yet are still in good working order. However, he seemed to take the news well.
