The prices for these devices are still too high IMO. The only way I could justify one is if I could use the display/digitizer as output/input devices on a home computer (there has been some work on X drivers for epaper screens--an actual compelling device might motivate more work on it). All of these "Toy OS" apps that each device manufacturer throws together (reinventing the wheel over and over again *sigh*) are fine for jotting notes and stuff, but to actually make the device compelling for professional/productivity use the only way forward is to decouple the output/input hardware from a particular software environment as well as the rest of the hardware.
