I nailed it: it was the nightmode preload hook. When removed, the problem disappears entirely... Sorry I completely forgot I installed this.
I was using the - supposedly - up-to-date fork of the nightmode from gtalusan. Anyone knows a version which actually works on newer firmwares and H2O?
The only problem that is that the nighmode actually works in nickel, save for the screen rotation bug when I exit from nickel (even when nightmode hasn't been used)
