Disabling samples being sent to cloud

When this feature was first introduced, I thought I'd like it. Now I'm sick of it, and have been for some time.

For example, the other day I needed a book on a certain topic. Using my Paperwhite, I searched the store, downloaded about 20 different samples, found one that worked for me, manually deleted the rest. No problem there.

The problem is that those 20-or-so books that I didn't want appear on my Fire as well--not downloaded of course, but they way they show up they might as well be. I don't want to have to manually delete them again, but I do.

Sure I could have deleted them from the cloud when I deleted them from the first device, but I wasn't online at the time and don't think I should have to be. And anyway, this speaks to why I'm sick of this feature: just deleting a book from one device is more complicated now because there's another popup and you're expected to be online.

Ideally, there should be a setting on my Amazon account that simply prevents samples from being sent to the cloud. Having looked (before, and more thoroughly again), I don't believe such an option exists. But if anyone knows how, please let me know.
