In the end it doesn't matter. Copying KFX between devices only works for books that are designated by the publisher to be sold DRM-free.

That was my understanding from reading this thread. It is only with regard to converting Kindle to other formats that KFX is being defined as a new form of DRM.
As a publisher I will be interested to see how, if at all, this new format changes the dynamics of file theft. In any case it won't be for a long time due to Amazon's need to maintain their K8-device consumer base. By then many authors might be dead from starvation.
