Unless you can tell us WHY the boot process is failing, nobody can tell you if this procedure will help you fix it.

If you do follow the directions to install a serial port, then the information that makes available is very likely to settle the "why" part of the question.

Translation:
You can not make any progress towards determining if it is fixable without the serial port connection.
