Far as I've ever found the only way to get things to show up in the desktop and mobile kindle apps, is either buying from Amazon, or sending them through the amazon document conversion/upload thing. You should have an email you can send files to, that will populate everywhere. Once uploaded, they should show up as uploaded documents (I don't think they will show up as books, which sucks)
