I scanned and proofed a few ebooks decades ago in the days before you could buy ebooks. It's a real hassle and sure did ruin the books for me.
Later I did volunteer proofing for Gutenberg for a number of years and there you proof a single page. Then, when you've done it you can do more pages in the same book or another book. There's nothing about the process that can spoil a book for reading.
Anyway for those who want to proof without spoiling things for yourself that's a good way to do it. Gutenberg makes it very easy and painless. You just go there in your browser and it shows you a page and lets you edit it. Your edit will then be passed to someone else to do again, or yours might have already been done by someone else and you're just making a second pass, or a third pass, which is very fast and easy.
It's a good thing to do and worth doing.
