My first impulse is to agree with you, but then I thought of Adobe, Windows and quite a few others. They won't ask.
However, a good changelog will tell you beforehand what's changed and based on that you can make up your mind whether to update or not. Kobo's lack of a changelog has confounded me from day one.
Anyway, I'd prefer Kobo to resolve actual technical issues (like touch accuracy) instead of wasting their time on "looks".
