@tractorjohn - have you made any changes to the pagefile size etc?
Did MS recommend - running a system file check (sfc /scannow), doing a chkdsk and checking SMART statistics, running calibre in safe mode, disabling AV, uninstalling (downgrading) any recently installed software (especially driver upgrades), doing some memory tests, reseating memory cards and adapters, cleaning out the dust.
Does having a device attached make any difference?
