Frontier Law by Hank Madison, a pseudonym for the prolific multi-genre author Donald S. Rowland (
ISFDB,
SFE,
Fantastic Fiction), is his vintage standalone western historical action adventure novel with mild investigative elements, this one starring a Texas Ranger on the trail of an outlaw, who finds himself in a skirmish that kills a seemingly innocent bystander (or was he?), and that his own law enforcement mentor has disappeared while on the trail of another outlaw, which poses the mystery of what's really going on and whether it's all linked up in a way he that he can shoot-out like unto slicing the Gordian knot in avenging gunslinger fashion, free for a limited time courtesy of publisher Endeavour Press, who are reprinting it from its 1976 edition out from Robert Hale.

Description
A man on a mission…
For over a year Texas Ranger Tate Linnaker has been after Big Jake Bowtell on both sides of the border, only for the outlaw to escape each time.
Returning to the town of Buffalo Creek after yet another failed attempt to catch Bowtell in Mexico, this time barely escaping with his own life, Tate has a run in with one of Bowtell’s gang.
The resulting shootout ends with the death of Floyd Bailey, son of wealthy landowner Homer Bailey.
But was Floyd the innocent bystander he appeared to be?
At the same time Tate learns that his mentor, Lefty Shadde, has gone missing on the trail of another outlaw.
Is Shadde’s disappearance related to Bowtell? Are the Bailey’s also somehow involved?
When Tate finally catches up with Bowtell, he finds himself outnumbers and at a huge disadvantage. But that won’t stop the fearless ranger.
With bullets flying, can lawman Tate Linnaker survive long enough to find the answers and dish out some Frontier Law?
This classic western adventure, set in the unforgiving wild west, is the perfect read for fans of Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour.
