Thinking that the 4c patch was meant for the latest firmware and that maybe that's why Nickel didn't work, I updated to 4.2.8432 from within KMS (by dragging the .tgz file into .kobo). Starting Nickel, I had the same result as before.

I then reinstalled the 4c patch, but still no luck starting Nickel. Version 775 of KOReader (a nightly snapshot) was working before all this and still seems to work.

Would you have any advice @tshering?
I have no idea at the moment what is causing this. I have a look into it this evening. Right now I do not have any kobo reader with me.

You can try starting nickel another way:
  • select: (KSM home) tools > nickel something.msh > start nickel without fmon.sh (I cannot exactly remember the names of the entries, but you will be able to identify them, when you see them.)
This part has not been changed by the patch, and should therefore work as it did before. Be aware that the exit pngs and so on will not work, when nickel is started in this way. So you have to power off to exit nickel.
