I have found that it might be related to the usb cable, so that's a bit similar to the type of usb port, I guess.

jdta09 - dodgy usb cables have been known to cause devices to be unseen by calibre, but I can't recall them causing Windows to crash.
Could you try the suggestion I made in post #17 in this thread ==>>
Windows 10 Blue Screen Crash. As you'll see in kiwik's response my suggestion did make a difference, a calibre error rather than a BSOD, if you get something similar please post the text of the error message and I will ask the relevant experts to respond.
