Should you lose your kobo, or if it's stolen, login and remove your credit card info. Then call or contact Kobo, they should be able to blacklist the device since they'll have access to the serial number.

But if you make sure there is no credit card info in the account then whoever has your Kobo cannot buy anything.
Are you saying that you can change the password & log out of the account and the Reader will still be logged in and able to browse the store?
