The issue for me, as far as Audible is concerned, is that I got too accustomed to cheap audiobooks. I used to take advantage of OverDrive/Whispersync pricing a
lot and I've been on various promotional memberships since last spring. OD/W is dead and I'm at the end of my last promotional deal, but I'm not willing to pay $14.95 per credit going forward. It reminds me of coming to the end of Kobo unlimited coupons and contests; I had adjusted to much cheaper ebooks and I'm still far from having recalibrated my mental price ticker to the new reality.
I think my new strategy will be to buy a Brooklyn OverDrive card; only four audiobooks I can't get elsewhere and I'm already past breakeven, and that's without counting ebooks. Both Kobo and Audible let the good times roll too long to keep me as a serious, steady customer in the near to intermediate term.
