The simple explanation will be: Kovid will not have adopted any jungle dialect correctly. I would not have expected him to. The Yoruba thing was just meant to be fun.
It wouldn't surprise me if anyone using a computer in 'Yoruba country' speaks English, or understands enough to actually use it. But, there is no way that Kovid is making this claim. What he is doing is supplying an application that can be translated. This done via a site called Transifex. When calibre is built it downloads the translations and includes them. If something hasn't been translated, the English version is used. Until someone comes along and does this translation, that's the way it will work.
