I haven't read all the posts in this long thread (I just bought a Kobo for the first time a few days ago), but I had almost the same rapid drain problems on my Nook Simple Touch ereader back in 2011 when I first got it. I even got a replacement device from Barnes and Noble, but it had the same problem. I "fixed" the problem by rebooting the device every time I charge it, right after I charge it. In other words, I power it down by long-pressing the power button. Then you have to turn it on with a long-press again on the power button. I think that the Kobo works the same when you do this procedure - it reboots, right?

Anyway, this actually solves the rapid battery drain problem on the Nook ST, at least on mine. If I do not reboot, it starts draining very quickly and can drain completely within a day or two. Maybe this helps?
