That's too bad. There isn't anything in the USB port causing the cable from making a good connection is there?
I don't know if there is a way to connect it to Calibre over WiFi like you can on a phone/tablet with Calibre Companion, but you can always put the books on a micro SD card separately and then plug it into the device if worse comes to worse.
