A good example is firmware 4.2.8110. I'm running 4.2.8110 on my H2O. But it's a firmware for the KA1/AE2. The OS that's part of the firmware update is not compatible with non-mark 6 devices. But I can install the rest of it using just KoboRoot.tgz.

That is important to know. Installing the OS could cause a brick or the need to factory reset. So I do think that just pointing people to the relevant thread only isn't a good idea. I think it is a good idea to ALSO point them to the relevant thread.
