I'm with Jon. White isn't the best choice for a e-ink reading device.
* If anything, it makes the reader "disappear" less than a dark frame.
* It makes the user
perceive the screen itself as greyer/darker in relation to the device frame.
* It is more likely to get/look dirty.
All that said, I didn't find Kindle 1 to be ugly. (But if I did, I wouldn't say Kindle 2 is different enough to my eyes to make a difference.)
