As for amazon not selling outside of the US because it is selling all it can make is total rubbish if there is demand then you satisfy it (as you say amazon are a business so are focused on making money) apple wouldn't just say well our 1 ipod factory is running at max let's just sell those ipods no they would build more factories (well get the OEM manufacture to)

No eink screen can have backlighting. It's not possible. The light is unable to shine through.
Once rumors of the Kindle 2 came about, I did guess that the backlog was so Amazon could dump the Kindle 1 in favor of the Kindle 2 whenever that would be.
I don't know if the Kindle 2 is thicker then the 505 or not. Might not be. And if it is, it's probably not by much.
And Amazon did raise the price of the Kindle 2. They did it deceptively. They have the price of the Kindle 2 the same as the Kindle 1, but because you have to now pay $30 more for the case, that's $30 more then it was. THis is deceptive practices and it also means more people will end up with a caseless Kindle and I bet we'll be seeing more broken Kindles because of this. Thank you Amazon for not including the case.
