Kobo had a partnership with Borders when they 1st came out. That was probably less than a year before Borders went under. They have/had some independent bookstores and general retailers that have carried some of their devices over the years, but it's never seem to stick in the U.S. They seem to have given up there and focused a little place called the rest of the world where Amazon isn't quite as entrenched.
