WordStar 7 (and perhaps some earlier iterations) either saves by default every 10 seconds or so, or some time in the distant past I tweaked it to autosave.

I have successfully booted WS from DOS to Windows 3 to Win 95 to ME to XP to Vista to Win 7 to Win 10. Alas I can no longer tweak it, so I am stuck with the tailoring I did some years ago, and I have lost the ability to print from the program or to do very much in the way of copy and paste to/from Windows. (Win 7 and Win 10 require an interface called vDos.)

But it's still the best word processor / text editor ever sold. Very few Windows programs support the WS command keys now, the exceptions being Word itself (a $35 add-in from Mike Petrie) and NoteTab Pro. If there are others, I'd love to know about them, especially if there's a Notepad-like text editor.
