AFAIK you can choose to use G drive or dropbox, & possibly others. you should not need dropbox installed to use G drive & vice versa. But that is not something I have tested.
dropbox goes from 2gb to 2.5Gb as soon as you first use it, and you can ramp it up much higher with referrals
