I find that if I have too many books on the reader, I spend way too much time paging through the books to find the *best* book to read at the moment rather than just opening a book and getting to it. With that number I also forget series order and so on.
With fewer books, I also get more of a sense of progress as the number of books on device fluctuates up and down. With a large library, I despair at the size of my to-read list
Finally, by keeping fewer books on device, it means I plug the reader into USB to load more often and I find I get close to enough charge from that to keep going without having to remember to actually recharge my reader.
That said, my preferred number is probably between 20-50 and not as low as 4.
