The speakers were two pupils of Miss Ada Spencer's school, at what was called the “Narrows District,” situated at the western extremity of a country town in Northern New England. The occasion was a half-day's outing, or picnic, of Miss Spencer and her scholars in that rugged locality known in local geography as Blake's Hill.
