I think the biggest improvement is the KFX format. Note, especially with Bookerly, how more words get inserted with each subsequent line, but it never feels cramped.

If you're coming from something as far back as the KK, *everything* will be an improvement, except I suppose for the lack of keyboard. (Most instantly noticeable other than the weight and lighting is probably the radically improved screen resolution and contrast even with the light off: the KK used a 167PPI screen, while all Kindles currently on sale have a 300PPI one with radically whiter whites.)
