On that page, there isn't an archive that contains a KoboRoot.tgz, there is only the KSM08_ext_aura_one_03b.zip file. Which archive did you mean?

By archive I meant the file KSM08_ext_aura_one_03b.zip, from which you can extract KoboRoot.tgz. If you do not see KoboRoot.tgz, your extraction program might do all extraction steps automatically without you seeing the individual steps (KSM08_ext_aura_one_03b.zip KoboRoot.tgz > KoboRoot.tar > some folders with files). But then I wonder how you extracted KoboRoot.tgz from the original firmware update file; and also from the KSM 08 package.

No! You would have to merge of KoboRoot.tgz of KBStartMenu_08.zip, KoboRoot.tgz of KSM08_ext_aura_one_03b.zip, and KoboRoot.tgz of Kobo firmware update package ( for instance kobo-update-4.2.8283.zip), and repack it into KoboRoot.tgz. But why should you do this? Just to clarify the (fully extracted) content of KSM08_ext_aura_one_03b.zip should overwrite the corresponding files of KBStartMenu_08.zip; and the resulting files of this merging process should overwrite the corresponding files of the firmware update file.

I would like to mention that this did however not remove the files of KSM that are located at the system partition.
