Also, audio rights are sold separately from other forms. Amazon does the bundling "if you bought this you can get x for cheaper/whispersync" so whether the books are legit or not probably doesn't matter (for the deal). Amazon has likely decided they are legit or they wouldn't be selling them, but they rely on consumers and authors for reporting.

Audio often comes out a long time after it's approved/negotiated so dates are somewhat meaningless as well.

For that matter, most large publishers take at least a year to get a book out AFTER they have the completed manuscript. That's a fairly normal timeline (a year).
