Backup updated. Now I'm going to move some dump data (such as disk images) to an external drive (and the companion backup of that drive).
I plan to keep the data on this laptop in sync with the master desktop (over the network), and I'll have to take the laptop out of the house next week. In case this thing gets stolen, I don't want people to get their hands on hundreds of e-books and digitized CD's, so I've enabled the laptop's TPM, and will be running Bitlocker on the drives.
That way, people can't log into the system without a password, and it's also impossible to use tools to reset it, or read the drive on another computer. Additionally, the really important stuff is on a set of encrypted USB-sticks kept in different houses.
Maybe I'm taking this backup and safeguarding thing too seriously since I lost three weeks worth of work in the mid-90's due to a hard drive crash, and forgot my work bag in a train 10 years later....
