Moreover, you text font family is set to Palatino. The header/footer font is also Palatino (at least to my eyes). In addition, the line spacing chosen is also very close to the spacing between the header and the first text. Your choice of text layout settings is very different from mine. Perhaps you may try other settings to see if the layout looks more pleasing to your eyes. Having said that, I'm also for a new option to turn on/off header and footer without any other side effect.

Turn on Diagnostics in System Settings to see it. You should then see something like "Change body font size (px) from 20 to 30?" when you pinch and spread.
