The battery cable isn't soldered on. That connector can be taken out. From memory, you tilt it up from the cable end. But, hopefully someone will come along that uses these types of connectors more than me and tell us if I am right or wrong.

The screen is what I expected from the description. There is no obvious damage, so apart from making sure the screen connector is plugged in properly, it should do something. There is also an LED near the switch. What happens with it when you turn the device on? Or plug it into a PC/USB charger?
